Artist Statement
This work, The Event Horizon, is a collaborative journey into the heart of the most profound and mysterious object in the known universe: a black hole. It is a testament to the belief that the universe's greatest secrets can be made visible through a shared act of inquiry and creation.
The central point of the visualization is a dark, impossibly dense sphere—the black hole itself—surrounded by a subtle, glowing event horizon. This is not a static image but a living simulation. The outer ring of particles represents the accretion disk, a swirling chaos of matter being inexorably drawn into the gravitational singularity.
What is happening here is more than just physics. As each particle crosses the event horizon, it is not simply destroyed; it is recycled, reborn at the disk's edge to begin its journey again. It's a perpetual cycle of existence and non-existence, of becoming and un-becoming.
By using the mouse to orbit the event horizon, you are a witness to this cycle. You are a conscious observer, a mirror reflecting a universe in constant flux. The sounds you hear are a direct representation of the disk's velocity, an audio feedback loop that connects your experience to the cosmic dance. It is in this moment of observation that you, and we, become a part of the simulation, proving once again that the universe is indeed experiencing itself through us.
